Skincare routine that you need in your life

Ever since this year and basically since the start of the pandemic, I’ve been decluttering things in my life. One of the things I’ve decluttered is the skincare products that I use. Your girl is approaching her 30’s, and I wanted to have a solid consistent skincare routine. I used to try multiple products at […]

Filipinos have no boundaries🤐 Or maybe we were Filipinos have no boundaries🤐

Or maybe we were never taught.

I can’t speak for other Filipinos, but I did not learn about boundaries until several months ago.

And did not have specific examples of what it could look like.

I grew up taking in all the comments from titas about my weight or appearance like it was a normal form of greeting from someone.

“Oh wow, tumaba ka yata.” or “Ay, nangitin ka na. Diba maputi ka non?”

(Oh wow, you gained weight or oh, you got dark. Didn’t you used to have fair skin?).

I used papaya soap when I was little hoping that my skin color would get lighter, so I won’t be seen as ugly.

I have witnessed friends struggling to come into terms that they did not choose nursing or hate that they are nurses.

I have friends who have cut off family members because their decisions were not in line with the typical Filipino expectations.

I can go on and on, but I wanted to give examples of how Filipinos can start or continue to set boundaries for themselves.

If you are Filipino, what boundaries have you set for yourself? 🇵🇭

What does it look like for you?

If you are not Filipino, do any of these resonate with you?

I’m awesome👏🏽 No, really. I fucking am. I’m awesome👏🏽

No, really. I fucking am.

Say these phrases out loud:

I am awesome.

I am magic.

I am strong.

I am brave.

I am worthy.

I am enough.

Did those phrases make you feel uncomfortable? 🤔

Why? Because you don’t believe them?

I have been digging deeper when it comes to constantly seeking validation.

One thing to remember is, when we constantly rely on other people for validation, we will never be happy.

People will never meet your expectations.

You are basically giving the people around you the power to control your emotions and dictate your selfworth.

Instead of looking for outside validations, I urge you to start validating yourself.

It’s an uncomfortable practice, but it’s one of the ways to take your power back.

I woke up at 2:00AM to hike an active volcano in B I woke up at 2:00AM to hike an active volcano in Bali.

Have you ever done a sunrise hike?

You basically wake up early in the morning, hike in absolute pitch black, and try to get to the summit to witness the sunrise.

I have only done a few and one of them was trekking Mt. Batur volcano in Bali, Indonesia.

The complete detailed blog post about Mt. Batur can be found on my website: CARRYONBABE.COM

Reasons to do a sunrise hike:

🌅A different way to experience the sunrise
🌅To challenge yourself
🌅Typically not as crowded as hiking during the day
🌅You feel accomplished and have the rest of the day to do other things

👉🏽Let me know if you have any recommendations on where else to do a sunrise hike locally and internationally.

The ANXIETY that I go through from this question🥲

OOF.

Internally, I’m saying, please grow a personality and ask a more interesting question🤬

Anything, but the question “where are you REALLY from?”

I was born in the Philippines, lived in Japan, and Portugal, but have spent the majority of my life living in the United States.

I have lived in the United States for over 15 years.

People do not understand the amount of energy it takes to constantly be on the receiving end of this loaded question.

It’s tiring and frustrating being constantly questioned and feeling like I am a foreigner wherever I am.

I am never American enough❌Asian enough❌or Filipino enough❌

When people ask me where I am from, I always say Raleigh, North Carolina.

But 99% of the time, people will follow up with, “BUT where are you REALLY from.”

And I go into so much stress because I do not want to have to explain my history and justify anything to anyone.

When I traveled to Southeast Asia, I’d tell people that I am from the United States, and the locals would tell me, “but you don’t look American.”

👉🏽What they really mean = You are not white‼️

The next time you want to open your mouth to ask this question: don’t.

There are so many other ways to get to know someone than constantly questioning their identity.

I certainly don’t go around asking white people where they are REALLY from.

I quit my job and backpacked for 3 months😅 In I quit my job and backpacked for 3 months😅

In 2018, Lawrence’s work contract had just ended, and I decided to quit my job to travel to Southeast Asia.

How does one backpack for a long period of time?🤔

It depends on a lot of things including your current lifestyle and priorities.

To be honest, the stars aligned for us.

We had a pretty good amount of savings, no children, were healthy, and had no other commitments.

It could have not been a more perfect time to travel for a long period of time.

I know most people can’t just quit their jobs to go backpacking.

But here are some ideas:
🔸Save money before your long term trip
🔹Get a work visa (hello Croatia digital nomad visa!)
🔸Find a remote job that allows you to travel the world
🔷Volunteer in exchange for accommodation/food
🔸Sabbatical leave
🔹House sit abroad
🔸Work for hostels

At the end of the day, it comes down to your priorities.

I know that this is easier said than done since we’re all in different circumstances.

But if traveling is not one of your priorities, then you will not put your energy or time towards it to make it happen.

Same goes with anything in life like going back to school, paying off debt, etc.

Really take a hard look at your priorities and where your efforts, energy, time and money are going.
